This week’s featured releases come from Not yet and Hello!Project (Sato no Akari, Triplet & OdaTomo).

Not yet – “Already”

Just when you thought it was safe to get back in the water, here comes AKS with another CD release. This time it’s from Not yet, one of the few AKB48 sub-groups still putting out new music. The rather crassly titled “Already” is, for want of a better description a “greatest hits” album. I’m not sure how you square that circle when it has pretty much everything they’ve ever released on there but oh well. Having said that you do get two new songs, of which “Sekai no Kaze wo Bokura wa Ukete” appears to be serving as the promotional song for the album. Overall it’s a decent package of songs and if you’ve been meaning to check Not yet out but haven’t got around to it then this release will be perfect for you.

Sato no Akari / Triplet / OdaTomo – “Aa, Subarashiki Hibi yo / Dream Last Train / Kodachi wo Nukeru Kaze no you ni

Our other featured release for the week is from Hello!Project and can be filed under the Satoyama Movement umbrella. Detractors would likely file it elsewhere but I digress. What we have here is a bit of a mixed bag in a very literal sense. We have a ballad, something a bit more mid-tempo and we round it out with a song with some more kick to it. Not bad for what was pretty much just an excuse to include Juice=Juice in a project that they weren’t around to witness the conception of. When it comes down to it you have three pretty decent songs that Hello!Project fans will probably enjoy but people who aren’t fans probably won’t. That’s not really news though, is it?

ALSO THIS WEEK:

Break Out / Yokai Taiso Daiichi” by Dream5
“Eien to Shunkan” by Muto Ayami
Keep On Lovin’ You” by Palet
“Watashi…Fukou Guse” by Vanilla Beans
Mawaru Sekai” by Yumemiru Adolescence

If you’re looking for something else this week then you have a couple of options. Muto Ayami (ex-Sakura Gakuin) has her debut album out and it looks like it’s shaping up to be really good while flying under everyone’s radar. Vanilla Beans are also likely to deliver another off-beat classic even though I haven’t heard much of it and don’t have a preview for you. Just trust me on that one. Finally, Yumemiru Adolescence are doing this kind of mature pop-rock number that you might be interested in if that’s your thing. Until next week.

If you missed any of the last few weeks’ worth of new music you can check out past editions of This Week in Music here.
