This week’s featured releases come from Morning Musume ’14 & S/mileage and Terashima Yufu.
Morning Musume ’14 / S/mileage – “Engeki Joshi-bu Musical “Lilium -Lilium Shoujo Junketsu Kageki-” Original Soundtrack“
Let’s kick this week off with something a bit different shall we? I don’t think I’ve ever featured an OST in these articles but you’ve got to try new things every so often. Okay, so if you’re not aware, Morning Musume ’14 and S/mileage have been performing the musical “Lilium” for a while now. I haven’t personally seen any of the performances but I have given the OST a decent amount of play. It’s pretty much what you’d expect from the soundtrack to a musical, a good variety of songs performed by the various cast members and a very stage production feel. The songs in this instance are pretty damn enjoyable and it’s nice to hear all of these girls singing in a different style than the usual chart friendly pop trappings. I would highly recommend that you give this album a look, it’s different but a good kind of different.
Terashima Yufu – “Campanula no Yuuutsu“
Our other featured release for the week is from Terashima Yufu who appears to be carving out quite the successful solo career for herself since leaving BiS. “Campanula no Yuuutsu” is her second solo single and it’s pretty different from what you usually hear from the idol genre. There’s “jungle drums” (that’s probably racist on some level, isn’t it?), jazz, Yufu’s haunting vocals…it’s quite the production. If I were to describe it the way I want to, I’d say that the song is really “smooth”. If I were to describe it in a way that most people would understand on the other hand, I’d say it falls somewhere in the category of easy listening or lounge music. The main point is, this song is super chill and I really like it. If anything I’ve said in the last few sentences sounds interesting to you then you’ll also probably like it too.
