Ten years of Gacharic Spin! To celebrate this milestone, the group is releasing a ten year retrospective at the end of the month with this track “Gyakkyou Hero (逆境ヒーロー)” right at the top of the playlist. Here for a bit of lubricant to your wallet, the group drops the promotional video for that lead track. “Gyakkyou Hero” has all the pieces in place: Hana with the impossible task of lead vocals and drums, dizzying keyboard sounds, slap-happy bass guitars, and quick-paced intensity. Gacharic Spin also doubles down with a pair of new girls: Angelina 1/3 and yuri. We only get to see Angelina 1/3 in “Gyakkyou Hero”, so I’m sure there’s more to come. “Gacha 10BEST” goes on sale March 27 at the retailers listed below.

ABOUT GACHARIC SPIN

Gacharic Spin is an all-female Japanese rock band formed in 2009 by former high school classmates. Currently composed of four instrumentalists and one performer, almost all the members have performed lead vocals, although drummer Hana and keyboardist Oreo Reona are the main singers. Gacharic Spin have performed live at Anime Matsuri in Texas, at Japan Expo in France, and had a concert in South Korea; they also performed at Tekko in Pittsburgh. Together with vocalist Fuki from Light Bringer, all four instrumentalists from Gacharic Spin are also in the band Doll$Boxx which formed in 2012. The four also have an alter ego band called Metallic Spin where they cover classic heavy metal songs, currently with Saber Tiger vocalist Takenori Shimoyama. Back with a sharp new look, we have Ehime’s Hime Kyun Fruit Can. “Saikyou setsuna” puts the six members in underground vaults for a spirited dance shot that fits the quick pace of the song. Outside and above ground, the girls get solo shots amidst the greenery of the location. If I had to let my imagination run wild, then Hime Kyun Fruit Can are filming at an abandoned monastery and dancing in the underground vaults that once held barrels of wine from the luscious grounds. You can usually expect some pretty spirited rock from HimeKyun, and “Saikyou setsuna” doesn’t disappoint in that department. You can find “Saikyou setsuna” on Hime Kyun Fruit Can’s new mini album “NUMBER30” … if you can find it. Unfortunately I don’t have any links to share with you.

Hime Kyun Fruit Can (ひめキュンフルーツ缶), also written as Himekyun Fruits Kan, is a Japanese pop and punk-pop girl group from the Ehime Prefecture. An audition was set up in 2010 and later that year the group was revealed. They made their debut in 2011 with the single “Renai Energy Hoson no Housoku”. The original line-up graduated from the group in October 2017, and the group restarted with new members that same November. Perhaps it’s a metaphor for the eventual journey that the group will be making together, but UP UP Girls (2) are getting on the bus, and their taking their three new members with them. “We are Winner” shows us that Morinaga Niina (森永新菜), Shimazaki Yuria (島崎友梨亜), and Niikura Ami (新倉愛海) are joining this crazy group and nobody’s telling them to get off the bus. Told with the nine members on the back of the bastion of public transportation, UP UP Girls (2) get pretty chummy with one another and eventually are arm-in-arm and swaying with the motions of the road. A sound stage performance of the song “We are Winner” with the new girls wearing a costume slightly altered from the classic look of the UP UP Girls (2). But, what we’re really going to be talking about here is the Tsunku songwriting/composition. It’s becoming really strange to see the former Hello! Project general producer working with practically everyone aside from the occasional Morning Musume single. Disconcerting? Yeah, just a little bit. “We are Winner! / Starting over”, the 6th single from UP UP Girls (2), will be landing in stores on April 2, 2019.

Well, I’ve been looking forward to another promotional video from MELONBATAKE A GO GO, that masked foursome singing to the psychobilly soundtrack. Well, mission accomplished with shades of monster movies in “IDOL FROM PLAN9”. I don’t know if you know anything about the Ed Wood classic, and I’m even less sure if you need to know much about the infamously “worst film in history”. Back to the idols, MELONBATAKE A GO GO get a dance shot with cameras shaking chaotically and sporadic lighting like a searchlight settling in on the latest bank robbing perp. The frenetic energy is palpable, which is the point of this production. Low budget like its namesake, “IDOL FROM PLAN9” will either thrill you to pieces or leave you dead cold: there’s no two ways about it. Tsuri Bit (つりビット, TsurixBit) is a Japanese pop 5-member idol group under the agency Sugar&Spice and record label Kisspoint Records. The group formed in 2013 and has a fishing theme. The group’s name (“つりビット”) is a portmanteau, composed of two parts: “angling” (釣り tsuri) and “bit” (as it is explained, “bit” is an English word for “a small piece” or “the smallest unit”). They are all beginner fishermen and will use the experience of fishing to create the best idol performance. They have such activities as deciding the centre of their singles with fishing battles and holding boating events with fans. Chai (stylized as CHAI) are a four member all-female band from Nagoya, Aichi, Japan. Forming in 2012, the band released their debut studio album Pink in 2017. Chai was formed in 2012 in Nagoya, Aichi Prefecture, by twin sisters Mana and Kana, alongside Yuna and Yuki. Mana, Kana, and Yuna are all from Nagoya, and were in the same class at high school. The three were members of the light music club at their high school, performing covers of musicians such as Tokyo Jihen and Aiko. Yuna introduced the other band members to Japanese music that did not easily fit into the traditional definition of “J-Pop”, such as the band Cero or Kimyō Reitaro. After the girls graduated and went to university, Mana became friends with Yuki (originally from Gifu Prefecture, who had moved to Nagoya), and asked the four friends to form a band. The band’s name comes from Russian tea (known as chai). Kana drank the tea with jam with her Russian literature professor at a Russian restaurant, which she thought was cute. At first, Chai performed mostly around Aichi Prefecture, but eventually moved to playing venues around Tokyo. CHAI started releasing singles independently in 2013, and held a tour of central Japan in the summer holidays. Their first large concert was performed at Zepp Nagoya, when the band were finalists in a college band competition. CHAI’s current lineup includes Kana (guitar & vocals), Mana (keyboards and vocals), Yuki (bass), and Yuna (drums).

=LOVE (イコールラブ, equal love) is a Japanese idol group formed in 2017. It is produced by Sashihara Rino (HKT48, AKB48) in collaboration with Yoyogi Animation Academy. They are signed to Yoyogi Animation Academy and release their music under the Sacra Music label. They released their major first single ＝LOVE on September 6, 2017. =LOVE currently includes members Otani Emiri (大谷映美里), Oba Hana (大場花菜), Otoshima Risa (音嶋莉沙), Saito Kirara (齋藤樹愛羅), Saito Nagisa (齊藤なぎさ), Sasaki Maika (佐々木舞香), Satake Nonno (佐竹のん乃), Takamatsu Hitomi (髙松瞳), Takiwaki Shoko (瀧脇笙古), Noguchi Iori (野口衣織), Morohashi Sana (諸橋沙夏), and Yamamoto Anna (山本杏奈).

As you all may already know, “Ishi” is the last single for Sashihara Rino before she graduates from HKT48. This makes this song and promotional video a bittersweet landmark for fans of the idol. Most of the shots prominently put the members of HKT48 at the center of the action with most shots centering on Sasshi herself. Of the other members, Matsuoka Hana and Tanaka Miku take the majority share of the remaining shots. With Yabuki Nako and Miyawaki Sakura are currently with IZ*ONE in Korea, Sasshi passes the flag to remaining members within HKT48 with the most promise to continue leading HKT48 into the future. Flag passed to Hana and Miku, HKT48 runs off onto new and unfamiliar territory. “Ishi”, the 12th single from HKT48, will arrive in stores on April 10, 2019.

ABOUT HKT48

HKT48 (derived from Hakata 48) is a Japanese Idol Group produced by Akimoto Yasushi and the 3rd sister group of AKB48. HKT48 is named for the Hakata-ku, Fukuoka city of Fukuoka Prefecture, where Akimoto originally intended to base the group. The group has a non-permanent theater at the Nishitetsu Hall, in Tenjin (Fukuoka Prefecture). Members of HKT48 are dispatched into three groups, chronologically named “Team H”, “Team KIV” and “Team TII” with Kenkyūsei (trainee) members training to be promoted into one of these teams. The 1st generation members were announced on October 23, 2011, debuting on November 26, 2011. The debut single, Suki! Suki! Skip!, was released in March 2013.

Band Ja Naimon! (バンドじゃないもん！, commonly abbreviated as BanMon, バンもん！) is a Japanese girl group, which consists of six members Suzuki Misako (鈴姫みさこ, drums), Koishio Ringo (恋汐りんご, castanets), Nanase Gumi (ななせぐみ, shaker), Mochizuki Miyu (望月みゆ, bass), Amanatsu Yuzu (甘夏ゆず, synthesizer), and Omomoko Sunrise (大桃子サンライズ, tingsha). The name of the group literally means “we are not a band!”. Band Janaimon! functions as a band and an idol group with members picking up and putting down instruments throughout their live sets and sometimes mid-song. The group has signed with the label Pony Canyon. The group renamed themselves to Band Ja Naimon! MAXX NAKAYOSHI on November 9, 2018.

Yamaguchi Kassei Gakuen (山口活性学園) is an idol group based in Yamaguchi. Their name is abbreviated as Yamakatsu (山活（やまかつ）). Previously, members were split into the Idol and Artist departments, which eventually merged. Yamakatsu’s current lineup includes members Yuly (ユリ―), Tsuneoka Moi (常岡もい), Moriwaki Yui (森脇優依), Fujii Rena (藤井澪奈), and Mugi (むぎ).
