Shinshitodoroku, gekijounogotoku (神使轟く、激情の如く) commonly known as Shingeki are a Japanese idol unit that debuted on September 20, 2017. The group is a super individuality group with the concept of “a music mix rock idol used by gods that has come down to bring about a revolution in the idol industry .” Shingeki have two aspects: “rock coolness” and “pop cuteness”. The group produces high-quality music and emotional performances. SHINGEKI currently includes members Jikkuri Kotono (実久里ことの), Ikuggaki Imoko (生牡蠣いもこ), Ruisen Amane (涙染　あまね), Fushichou Shiori a.k.a. Auditions for the group was announced on December 27, 2013, only girls attending Kindai University can participate in the audition. The audition application deadline was January 31, 2014. Yanakoto Sotto Mute (やなことそっとミュート) is a Japanese idol group formed in August 2016. They are managed by DCG Entertainment and produced by composer/arranger Hiroaki Taniyama, who is also MIGMA SHELTER’s sound producer. Yanakoto Sotto Mute means something like “gently mute the unpleasant things” and their concept can be roughly translated to, “While gently muting the unpleasant things in everyday life might not solve anything, for the time being, let’s sing rock with a sorrowful melody”. The genres they use to describe their music are grunge, shoegaze, and alternative rock. (from YesTiger!). ABOUT AIMYON

Aimyon (あいみょん, born March 6, 1995) is a Japanese singer and songwriter. Aimyon was born on March 6, 1995 in the city of Nishinomiya in Hyōgo Prefecture. She decided to become a singer because of her grandmother who wanted to become a singer, and her father who worked in acoustics. During her middle school years, she began writing songs and doing covers with the acoustic guitar her English teacher left her. When she was in high school, her friend sent her application to an audition without her knowledge, and she qualified for the final rounds. After graduating from high school, a YouTube video of one of her performances caught the attention of her first music label, Lastrum Music Entertainment. Aimyon wrote the lyrics for the song “Time Goes By” from the third single of the boy group Johnny’s West, released on February 4, 2015. On March 4th, 2015, she made her indie debut with the single “Anata Kaibou Junaika (Shine)”. Aimyon made her major debut with her March 30, 2016 single “Ikiteitanda yo na”.

Niji no Conquistador (虹のコンキスタドール) is a Japanese idol group themed around illustrating, cosplay, and voice acting. Formed in 2014, hey are also known as NijiCon (虹コン) or 2zicon. The theme of the idol group is : “Every day is a Culture Festival”. The girls are split into Red Team and Blue Team (Sagittarius Meteor Shower). BiSH find themselves literally dead in the new promotional video from the “STiCKS” digital release and (later) the “CARROTS and STiCKS” album. The girls put on the camouflage and operate as military indoctrinated, gun wielding warriors. It’s a topsy-turvy post-apocalypse (?) that finds the BiSH girls (finally) dead. “Tsuini shi” strikes a balance point between the freakout sounds that people like me enjoy and a (more-or-less) poppy metal groove. One thing is for sure: this isn’t the nice BiSH you’re getting here with “Tsuini Shi”, and if you can take the squeals and yells then BiSH have a finger for you. You can find “Tsuini Shi” on the “STiCKS” portion of “CARROTS and STiCKS”. “STiCKS” is out digitally on iTunes now (link) while “CARROTS and STiCKS” is available in stores on July 3, 2019.

BiSH (“Bish” ビッシュ), also known as Brand-new idol SHiT (Shinsei Kuso Idol, 新生クソアイドル), is a Japanese idol group that was founded in 2015 by their manager Watanabe Junnosuke. The group was conceived as a successor to BiS, whose first incarnation had disbanded the previous year but have since developed their own identity. In January 2015, Watanabe Junnosuke announced his plans to restart BiS and opened auditions to find members. In March, Yukako Love Deluxe, Cent Chihiro Chittiii, Hug Me, Momoko Gumi Company and Aina The End were announced as members of BiSH. The members’ faces were obscured with black contact lenses and could not be revealed until they each attained 4,444 followers on Twitter. “JUSTadICE” is an Oomori Seiko promotional video with not much Oomori Seiko. I haven’t watched the anime to verify this, but it looks to me that we are just watching the opening from “BLACK CLOVER” from which this song was taken. Naturally, I would have preferred Seiko over this OP Theme. Given that this video is labeled as the anime version, I’m holding out hope for an Oomori Seiko version of the video. “JUSTadICE” is the seventh opening of the TV Anime “BLACK CLOVER”, and is available now as a digital single from the retailers listed below.

Oomori Seiko (大森靖子) is a Japanese singer-songwriter who began her career in 2008. She is also the former lead singer, guitarist, and keyboardist for the band Omori Seiko & THE Pink Tokarev. Omori Seiko was born on September 18, 1987 in Matsuyama, Ehime, Japan. Omori graduated from high school in 2006 and decided to enter Musashino Art University in Tokyo. When she was 19, Omori came across the live house Muryoku Muzenji, which showed her the way of music and allowed her to express her interests without judgement. She eventually quit university in 2007 to instead pursue a music career. She is a fan of Hello! Project and Michishige Sayumi in particular, and she has written songs for various UP-FRONT GROUP artists since 2014. Aside from her work Hello! Project, Oomori Seiko has also composed and written songs for idol groups LADYBABY, Terashima Yufu, Shiina Hikari, and Ueda Tatsuya, and others.

Working the melodic indie rock angle, Kaede from Negicco gets sun in her eyes with the new promotional video for “Cloud nine (クラウドナイン)”. Acoustic instruments ring with a natural echo, and a vintage guitar lead highlight the singer’s flat delivery (like it was an aesthetic). The overexposed frames fit the song perfectly as the melody really provides a sunny outlook with just a touch of bitterness. Closeups of Kaede with the wind blowing across her face are intercut with cute shots of the Negicco member in the back of an open bus with the waters of some bay or other far off in the background. I know there’s some of you out there who adore this kind of pop, because I’m’ one of you! “Cloud nine” is available as a CDR from T-Palette Records. Unless you live in Japan, good luck with this one!

Negicco (ねぎっこ, the name is officially written in Latin script) is a female idol music group created in July 2003. It is composed today of three members: Nao (なお), Megu (めぐ), and Kaede (かえで). The group is from Niigata, Japan, and was created for the promotion of the local green onion (Allium fistulosum): the word negi (ねぎ) means “green onion” in Japanese. “Negicco” thus means “The green onion girls”. The group is produced by Negi-pro Agency, and is signed to the T-Palette Records label.

The Akashi planetarium girls, YENA☆, produce a lyric PV for their 3rd single 2016’s “HAHAHA”. This being a lyric video, I don’t expect a whole lot from the visual offerings of the clip. I’m not sure which girls were in the group back in 2016, so likely “HAHAHA” is a chance to include the latest set of idols in this winsome song. Jumping melodies play cutely and with enough hooks to keep you around for the duration of clip (and even a few replays!). That said, “HAHAHA” is an amalgamation of a few live performances of the current lineup of YENA☆, which I find engaging. I’d link you to “HAHAHA”, but really I couldn’t scare up any links from the usual sources. So, enjoy the clip!

Former Maneki Kecak member Fujikawa Chiai preps for her debut album as a soloist with the spacey track “Laika”. Softly funky and adorned with Chiai’s powerful vocals, “Laika” lives up to its Fujinaga Ryutaro (Elements Garden) pedigree with syncopated guitars solid downbeats. The arrangement maintains integrity while making ample room for Chiai’s vocal performance. On the video side of things, Chiai gives a tough performance with a baseball cap crowning her coiff and a red jumpsuit consciously worn off her shoulder. The emotional performance gets even more heavy as the rain falls about halfway through “Laika”, and I say “Let if fall!”. “Laika”, the debut album from Fujikawa Chiai, goes on sale May 7, 2019.

Graduating on April 6, Sakura has her KissBee girls deliver the emotionally charged song with a dance performance in the seats of a planetarium. The music swells and recedes like the ocean’s waves or perhaps the axial precession of the heavens above. In the dark of the planetarium, the girls are in want of a little bit of lighting for much of “Re☆universe” as their choreography finds the groups sweeping their arms across the heavens. From Fukuoka, the girls rap duo 963 (read: kurumi) come together for a new promotional video. “Hoshi no Furumachi” is a cover version of the Mika☆Rika song released in 2014. Jazzy arrangements float in the air like a lazy afternoon with the sun streaming through the midday curtains. The girls go from pushing each other up the hill in a shopping cart to a gaming center where the polished trim of the slot machines and pachinko machines catch the camera’s eye. The girls themselves seem a bit dressed down for a promotional video: jeans and Converse sneakers peak out conspicuously from the long tartan coats worn by both girls. “Hoshi no Furumachi” is a catchy song for the two girls, and I really hope it points to more things to come from 963. “Hoshi no Furumachi” is available in stores now.

963 (kurumi) is a JAPANESE IDOL girl group who live in Fukuoka JAPAN born from the Kurume TV program “Kurume Koi Biyori” in Kurume City in 2013. The second generation of 963 began in July 2015 with the group reorganized as a duo. Working with a an arrangement that ranges from sentimental piano to driving rock, Nagoya’s Tebasaki Sensation are working hard for your approval with “STIMULATE”. The girls explore an expansive modern poured concrete building using its corridors, vaulted ceilings, and rooftops for performance and dance shots. Handheld cameras spin around the girls cinematically for a few well-composed, symmetric shots. Tebasaki Sensation, after being named for chicken wings, may sound like a joke, but believe me there’s some serious talent and thought put behind this production. “Stimulate” is the closing track on Tebasaki Sensation’s debut album “Tebasaki no oishii tabekata” in stores now.

We had an idea that things would be a little different for new Codomental.inc act Seireki 13 ya, and yes “Itoshi utakata to” is different. Unlike the nu-metal rock slashed with EDM offerings of most of their cousins, Seireki 13 ya offer to you a straight up, through and through Eurobeat song complete with Para Para choreography. The individual shots complete the picture with moody settings of the girls backlit with member colors and marshy fog. My first thought here is that sitting around in a puddle of water probably feels uncomfortable: MY! these girls are suffering for their art! “Itoshi utakata to” gives us a really good look at the new group, and I like the contrast between the peppy music and death rattle imagery. But, you know my tastes by now. Seireki 13 ya’s “Itoshi utakata to”, their sophomore single, goes on sale April 10, 2019.

SEIREKI13YA (星歴13夜) is a Japanese idol group formed in 2018 by Codomomental.inc (Zenbu Kimi no Seida, YukueshirezuTsurezure, Kaqriyo Terror Architect, Seireki13ya, etc.). The group name roughly translates to Astral Calendar of 13 nights. SEIREKI13YA’s lineup currently includes Sono Homare (園ほまれ), Shika Towa (色とわ), Nene Komochi (寝こもち), Fuwa Akane (浮あかね), and Ama Mauru (天まうる).

SAWA, the singer songwriter who made her debut back in 2009, gets back to business with the release of her mini album “Bijin Hakumei Aegean Kai” and the PV for its eponymous title track. The look of the PV is that of the cleanup crew from a public bath enjoying the empty facilities with a glorious dance break. In a white t-shirt and red shorts, SAWA scrubs up the tile floor barefoot before the song starts to blare over the loudspeakers. And, boy does SAWA come to life. The happy-go-lucky music of “Bijin Hakumei Aegean Kai” enlivens the singer to work on her choreography with enthusiastic arm waves, twirls, and jumps around the bath house. If you’ve ever worked as late night cleanup crew, you’ve probably had a similar “no one is looking, let’s just dance!” moment (I know I have!). “Bijin Hakumei Aegean Kai” is earnest, enthusiastic, and definitely worth a listen. “Bijin Hakumei Aegean Kai” goes on sale April 17, 2019.

SAWA (サワ) is a Japanese singer-songwriter and DJ. SAWA first appeared in 2003 as a member of the group Jack Knife under Stardust Management. The group performed cover routines live and disbanded in April 2004 without releasing any material. In 2009, Sawa made her major label debut on Sony Music Entertainment Japan’s sublabel, Epic Records, releasing two mini-albums: “I Can Fly” and “Swimming Dancing”. In 2012, SAWA penned and composed the title track of now disbanded 80s/90s revivalist idol/girl unit, Especia‘s debut single “ミッドナイトConfusion” (Midnight Confusion) and has gone on to pen tracks for Terashima Yufu, KOTO, Idol Reneaissance, and others. SAWA is currently signed under KING RECORDS.

After what seems like years on the backburners of Up Front, the duo Bitter & Sweet made a modest return with their new single “Toi tokoro e ikuno desho / Love Story wa hajimaranai”. Here, we get the animated promotional video for “You’re off to somewhere far, aren’t you? (遠いところへ行くのでしょう)”. In the best of literalism, a trenchcoated and hatted cat carries his bindle far and wide from the city towards certain adventure. The season wear on, and our intrepid explorer keeps his westward journey. The song itself has a folk sensibility, with Asahi and Moemi harmonizing every line of verse over plucked guitars that eventually transforms into a band arrangement. “You’re off to somewhere far…” is a lovely piece that requires a little bit of patience and a love of melody. Bitter & Sweet’s second single “Toi tokoro e ikuno desho / Love Story wa hajimaranai” is in stores now.

Bitter & Sweet (pronounced as ビタースウィート; Bittersweet) is a Japanese pop duo under UP-FRONT CREATE, consisting of Tasaki Asahi (田崎あさひ) and Hasegawa Moemi (長谷川萌美). In the December 13, 2013 episode of UF LICKS, soloist Tasaki Asahi announced that she would be placed in a new two-member unit. Over the next 3 years, Bitter & Sweet would release 3 indies singles. On December 20, Hasegawa Moemi was announced as her new partner. On February 18, 2017 during the Bitter & Sweet LIVE 2017 ~Hikari~ at AOYAMA RizM, the duo announced they would make their major debut on May 17 with the single “Shiawase ni Naritai. / Shashin ni wa Nokoranai Shoot” under the PICCOLO TOWN label.
