“Atashi ga tonari ni iruuchini (あたしが隣にいるうちに)” from the currently airing TV anime “The Rising of the Shield Hero” gives Fujikawa Chiai a meaty tie-in for her forthcoming new album. Chiai, sporting a purple tint to her her locks sings the mid-tempo rock ballad with her astounding vocal presence in a promotional video that takes her from the park to the marshy beaches. Styled in long coats, long blouses, and long dresses, Chiai regards the towering buildings of her local and decides to take her talents somewhere more elemental. The point here, and the point with all things Fujikawa Chiai, is her vocal performance. Of course, there is no disappointing here with “Atashi ga tonari ni iruuchini”. You can find “Atashi ga tonari ni iruuchini” on “Laika”, the debut album from Fujikawa Chiai on sale May 7, 2019.

The granddaughter of an enka singer, Fujikawa Chiai (藤川千愛) dreamed of a career as a singer since she was three years old. Chiai made her debut in 2015 as a member of the idol group Maneki Kecak. After leading the group in vocals, Chiai graduated from Maneki Kecak on September 24, 2018. Chiai began her solo career in November of that same year. Aside from her career as a vocalist, Chiai appears as an actress and a model.

It’s springtime, and Kobushi Factory bring to you this love song filled with the flowers of the season in its latest single “Haru Urara-Beautiful Spring (ハルウララ)”. The cherry blossoms are everywhere in this song of fleeting love; the group film much of the footage outdoors and under the sakura trees, and even in the soundstages, blossoms both real and CG flood the frame. Kobushi Factory seemed to hint that the song in their imagination was a love song sung from one girl to another, and this seems to charge up many of the shots of the girls holding hands and singing to the camera. That aside, the white performance outfits worn by Kobushi Factory, as well as their plain clothes, accentuate the youthful beauty of the group. On the song side of things, Kobushi Factory have been working hard on their vocals: harmony and acapella training have had a tremendous effect on the girls. Kobushi Factory sing together about as well as your favorite idol group, if not better. The seventh single from Kobushi Factory, “Oh No Ouno / Haru Urara”, goes on sale April 24, 2019.

 
Kobushi Factory (こぶしファクトリー; Magnolia Factory) is a Japanese pop group under Hello! Project, originally formed with eight members from Hello! Project Kenshuusei in early January 2015. In 2015 Kobushi Factory won a Newcomer Award at the 57th Japan Record Awards and were nominated for the Best Newcomer Award, which they subsequently won. Kobushi Factory is considered a successor to former Hello! Project unit Berryz Koubou and were given a name that was deliberated upon by Berryz Koubou leader Shimizu Saki and carried a similar naming to Berryz Koubou (Berryz Workshop). Model and Singer Uchida Shuri builds the mystery a bit more with her latest digital release “nude”. The racy title lives up to its reputation as Shuri appears wrapped in sheets for a look that suggests nakedness. As the PV progresses, the singer adds wardrobe and transitions to faded color images, but that doesn’t lessen the intimacy of the song. “Nude” is a luxurious electronic arrangement with sounds sparingly placed for an expansive effect. Echoes of the beats and jabbing, syncopated skeletons of chords characterize the song with mystery and sober introspection. Uchida Shuri seems dead serious about her transition to singing; her latest songs eschew the pop formula in favor of something deeper. UCHIDA SHURI (内田珠鈴) is a female singer and model born on April 26, 2001 in Fukuoka. As an elementary student, Shuri won Grand Prix at an elementary school student audition for the fashion magazine JS Girl. The coupling track to the latest Terashima Yufu gets a promotional video, and it’s fueled by all sorts of sophisticated grooves. Yuru spends “Last Cinderella” under the moonlit skies singing a midtempo jam that sounds as fancy as her sparkling dress. Admiring the nighttime cityscapes in the passenger seat, or under the crisp air on this side of Odaiba, Yufu sounds very comfortable singing the city pop of “Last Cinderella”. Guitar sounds both funky and groovy underscore the tight beats and keyboards that flicker somewhere between the left and right channels. Yufu looks great, and the PV is a nice reminder Yufu is a special lady who deserves your consideration. “Ii onna wo Yoroshiku” is available in stores on April 17, 2019.

Terashima Yufu (寺嶋由芙, テラシマ ユフ) is a Japanese idol under DEARSTAGE.inc. She is a former member of BiS and currently works as a soloist. On July 9th 2011, a day after her 20th birthday, Terashima was announced as a member of BiS, replacing Yokoyama Rina who had withdrawn a couple of months prior. As BiS was still promoting “My Ixxx” at the time, Terashima was added to much of the promotional material, despite not actually contributing on the single. Terashima Yufu’s final single in BiS, BiSimulation, was released March 13th, 2013. On May 26th, Terashima graduated from BiS due to frequent arguments with Pour Lui over the direction BiS should take. Yufu currently records under Teichiku Entertainment.

New idol act Aquanote have something for you, and it’s a digital single and promotional video for “Somei yoshino ga saku koro ni”. For the sixth single of Last Idol, ALL the girls get together to for the super unit. In a concrete form campus, the girls march in unison and hit their upper body choreography. On the sets of “Otona Survivor”, rust stains drip down chaotically from the rooftops of the school to highlight the precise movements of the unit who seem to move as a single unit. Other shots of the girls in school blazers give us the impression the the campus student body has been assimilated into the collective like an invading Borg force taking over a derelict starship. “Last Idol (ラストアイドル)” is, TV Asahi series first broadcast on 2017 August 13 the idol group born from that show. The Last Idol television show took auditions from girls from 14 to 26 years old no matter whether she was a professional idol or and amateur. Initially, the show conceptualized selecting 7 winners to form a group, release their own CD, and participate general idol activities. Those made it until the end (debut) would have a concurrency with her own group (if necessary). Since then, Last Idol has evolved to include the participants in a number of sub groups. Fresh for their release day festivities, Yukueshirezu Tsurezure releas the promotional video for their new single. After the triumph of last year’s “exFallen” album (read: I liked it a lot), Yukueshirezu Tsurezure underwent a drastic lineup change that left Mare A Komachi as the only connective tissue between that release and their current release, the 5th single “Odd eye”. What hasn’t changed is the group’s blistering mix of hard-as-f**k metal leanings mixed with a splatter of edm electronics. The continuity of production values from Codomomental.inc allows this new lineup to fall in line with the past pretty seamlessly (read: I really like this one). The four girls, Mare A Komachi (まれ・A・小町), Meiyui Mei (メイユイメイ), Kotetsu (个喆), and Takari Takara (たかりたから) get sparkling new, ghostlike outfits with white skirts and blouses trimmed with an electric blue. It looks great! Odd eye finds the group barefooted in their performance shots for an added bit of danger (ouch!) as they twist passionately with a live band playing instrumentals behind them. You can buy Yukueshirezu Tsurezure’s “Odd eye” in stores now.

Yukueshirezutsurezure (ゆくえしれずつれづれ) is a yami-kawaii idol group formed in late 2015 by Codomomental (Zenbu Kimi no Seida, YukueshirezuTsurezure, Kaqriyo Terror Architect, etc.). Ototoy Friday get their indie pop sensibilities in full gear with their split-screened promotional video for “Spring Fever (スプリングフィーバー)”. The group get some tasty guitar leads and wonderfully head expanding keyboard sounds to underscore Minami and Mana’s rap-like delivery before heading into full pop choruses. On the split screen, the girls walk with cameras trained on their weather chilled faces via a body-worn apparatus that gives the footage a selfie feel. The girls done a variety of face masks as they walk down the street, ride on a swing set, and drink coffee. Oh, and there’s an ICBM bend to the story … I guess this is the last Spring Fever ever. Ototoy Friday (おとといフライデー) is musical unit of Kojima Minami (小島みなみ) and Sakura Mana (紗倉まな), both of whom are active in a wide range of fields. Formerly known as Otome Frappuccino (乙女フラペチーノ) is a duo made up of two members of SEXY-J. The group released its first single “Ushiro kara Mae kara (後から前から)” in 2014, but began activity in 2016 with a new emphasis on musicality. Their first single to feature original music was 2016’s “Watashi Hotondo Sky Fish / Otome no Enjou (私ほとんどスカイフィッシュ/乙女の炎上)”. Ototoy Friday changed to their current name in March 2017.

The young ones are here to take over with a disco flavored song and high energy. “Can’t live without my dreams (その夢失くして生きてゆけるだろうか)” is a live shot promotional video featuring Theme park Girl (there’s actually five of them) on stage and in a few mobile phone “behind the scenes” shots. The compelling part of “Can’t live without my dreams” is the great, high energy disco arrangement that gives off a little bit of a Golden Era Hello! Project vibe. Theme park Girl seems to be more than up for the challenge, and they turn in a solid performance that puts them on my radar. Theme park Girl are young with an all members still attending middle school (shock!), so I expect great things from them if they can stick it out. Give them a listen, and let me know what you think!

Back with their 9th promotional video, tipToe. get their art-house production in gear yet again for “Akane (茜)”. Overdriven guitars chords and echoed guitar leads match a thick snare sound for the musical side of the song that finds the six girls singing in a soundstage production. Exposed panel lights lend to the existential feel of “Akane”, and the tipToe. turn in some passionate vocal performances for their part. The blue performance outfits look sharp, and the drama scenes of the girls in and about the campus have the feel of an indie movie production (in a good way!). I should add the the girls of tipToe. are really growing into their looks; they should probably be drawing more than a few gazes from here on out. At this point, I’m none too sure about release of “Akane”, so let’s just all enjoy the PV for now, yeah?

TIPTOE (ティップトウ, stylized tipToe.) is an idol group formed in December 2016. Launched as an in-house project of production joint company SOVA, it was formed by members selected from the public in audition conducted in the summer of 2016 . “Shall we all be youthful?” is the concept lifelong sentimental idol group “tipToe.” Music and visuals with motifs of youth and schools are characteristic. What happens when you take the masks of MELONBATAKE A GO GO? Well, you get the wonderfully electro world of Rukatama a go go. “Mother of Pearl” is a solo release from member Rukatama, and I think it’s infatuation worthy. A heavy bass sound envelopes the song with some vintage sounding electro pop from sometime in the 90s. Here, I have to emphasize the pop. “Mother of Pearl” displays some great melodies and singing talent from a girl who you probably thought could twitch and scream on stage. But, no … this is a solid release! The video side features her group mates in the choruses all without their trademark masks. “Mother of Pearl” might just be the push you needed to adore these girls full time. “Mother of Pearl” is available as a single at venues only (I think). There does seem to be a release from Rukatama a go go slated for sometime later this year. You better bet that I’m going to be VERY interested in “RUNNAWAY GIRL” when we get closer to its June 26, 2019 release date.

Are you in need of some sunny side pop to brighten your day? Well, Sunmyu~ have just what you’re looking for with their latest and 12th single “Special Day”. The girls get fancy brunch going in their best clothes and with sparkling attitudes. Singing along to an instrumental track that’s more than a little Motown inspired, the girls look absolutely perfect as they mug playfully for the camera and give each other lots and lots of hugs. Honestly, I’m not sure which of the girls look best. “Special Day” is exactly the kind of smile inducing pop for which idols were invented, and nothing best posits that conception of idols better than Sunmyu~. Sunmyu~ (さんみゅ〜) is a Japanese female idol group formed in 2012. Their tagline is “Bright, cheerful, fresh 21st century first white idol”. Sunmyu~ is affiliated with Sun Music Production and aspires to the royal road idol sound of the 1980s. The group name “Sunmyu” was given by Shusuke Aizawa , who was then the chairman of the Sun Music Group , derived from the company name in a sudden appearance just before the first one-man live after their major debut. Jewel☆Ciel is the next ArcJewel act to gift us with a new promotional video for the 2nd single “Natsuoto”. The girls get on an embankment for a stroll in their performance outfits lit by the setting sun. Along the way, we get group shots and gorgeous individual close ups of the young group. The production crew for “Natsuoto” had the imagination and vision to transform a residential block into a setting rich with texture and light. Add a few drone shots, and WHAMMO! you got yourself a quality PV. I just love the shots of the girls resting their heads together with the orange sun just over their shoulders; good on you Mr. Director! In particular, the camera seems to LOVE member Hamada Nana. Just look at those amazing shots of Nana with her dewy expression; it’s love. Jewel☆Ciel has lots of promise, and I’ll be following them all on Twitter as soon as I stop typing. “Natsuoto”, the second single from Jewel☆Ciel goes on sale May 14, 2019.

Jewel☆Ciel (ジュエル・シエル) is an idol group under Arc Jewel formed in 2018 with Hashimoto Keiichi (橋元恵一, @JAM) as general producer in conjunction with ArcJewel. The group name is a combination of “Jewel” and “Ciel” in French, which means sky. Jewel☆Ciel is affiliated with ArcJewel and is a sister group of Lovely☆Doll, Luce Twinkle Wink☆, Ange☆Reve, Chu☆Oh!Dolly, Jewel☆Niege etc. Jewel☆Ciel began their activities on August 12, 2018. Jewel☆Ciel’s current lineup includes members Emi Ando (安藤笑), Amane Nanase (天音 七星), Hamada Nana (濱田菜々), Yumesaki Riria (夢咲りりあ), and Sato Chikako (佐藤千花子).

You might remember OS☆U’s previous promotional video for “I Say Good Bye” here on these New PV Alerts in December 2018. That single take performance was a masterpiece of performance that I still visit occasionally. Well, today we get that same song, but with a performance version that features members Maria, Mei, Haruka, Natsumi, and Natsu. The “trick” here is that this promotional video is recorded with three 8K cameras, making “I Say Good Bye” the first multi camera 8K idol video ever produced. To say that it looks gorgeous would be redundant. I’m watching it on a 1080p monitor, and it looks incredible. Can even buy an 8K screen yet? I don’t know, but bless OS☆U for pushing us into the future.

OS☆U (おーえすゆー) is an idol group from Nagoya. Osu Super idol Unit was formed in 2010 to represent the Osu shopping street in Nagoya and the pop culture therein: anime, maid, otaku, etc. OS☆U is split into two units, pop☆star and smile ☆ star. Putting together ex-members of C-ute with members from Juice=Juice, LoVendoЯ, and Tsubaki Factory sounds like another All-Star situation, but “Koisuru! Sakana hen” is just the latest digital single from the Projects. I don’t know my Kanji very well at all, but lyrics here seem to be all about the Kanji 魚 (sakana, fish). This makes “Koisuru! Sakana hen” not only entertaining but also educational. I’m sure I would be rolling on the floor if I was more practiced. With not much actual video to talk about (this is more of a lyric video), well there’s not much more to talk about! That said, I enjoy the song’s beat from a hip-swaying perspective. Just don’t ask me to memorize all the Kanji.

This recording features members from the now-defunct Hello! Project group °C-ute (Yajima Maimi, 矢島舞美 and Nakajima Saki, 中島早貴), Juice=Juice (Takagi Sayuki, 高木紗友希), LoVendoЯ (Okada Marina, 岡田万里奈), and Tsubaki Factory (Kishimoto Yumeno, 岸本ゆめの).

Kobushi Factory’s “Oh No The Torment (Oh No Ounou, Oh No 懊悩)” completes the promotional video cycle for the fabulous fivesome of the Hello! Projects. A thoroughly sound stage production, solo shots put the girls next to giant Kanji set pieces not dissimilar to a playful 60s variety set. Kobushi Factory seem set on showcasing their heavy vocals, and to a girl the group can put some real shake into its voice. The song about staying tough in the face of daily adolescent adversity seems to strike a chord with the girls as they deliver some great performances. Full of attitude and with a touch of funk, “Oh No The Torment” is a great track that will probably fuel Kobushi Factory as a mainstay in their setlist for the seasons to come. The seventh single from Kobushi Factory, “Oh No Ouno / Haru Urara”, goes on sale April 24, 2019.

 
Kobushi Factory (こぶしファクトリー; Magnolia Factory) is a Japanese pop group under Hello! Project, originally formed with eight members from Hello! Project Kenshuusei in early January 2015. In 2015 Kobushi Factory won a Newcomer Award at the 57th Japan Record Awards and were nominated for the Best Newcomer Award, which they subsequently won. Kobushi Factory is considered a successor to former Hello! Project unit Berryz Koubou and were given a name that was deliberated upon by Berryz Koubou leader Shimizu Saki and carried a similar naming to Berryz Koubou (Berryz Workshop). Their sister group is Tsubaki Factory. Kobushi Factory’s current lineup includes Hirose Ayaka (廣瀬彩海), Nomura Minami (野村みな美), Hamaura Ayano (浜浦彩乃), Wada Sakurako (和田桜子), and Inoue Rei (井上玲音).

Formed from two members of the idol unit “drop”, Wyenra (ゑんら) is a self-produced idol unit featuring Miira Misato (木乃伊 みさと) and sisters Takiguchi Hikari (滝口 ひかり) and Takiguchi Kirara (滝口 きらら). This promotional video “Tsubomi (つばみ)” comes from their second single “Yokai Disco”. The girls get some great looking outfits in black and white with long skirts and oodles of detail. Wyenra seem to be hitting roadblocks all over the promotional video- artistic, academic, and athletic. As you might expect from an idol song, this should strike a chord with those experience similar troubles. What intrigues me the most about Wyenra is the fabulous artistic direction taken by the group (remember, they are self-produced). The inky blacks, flash bulb reflectors, and passionate stances go a long way to convince me of the group’s worth. And if that doesn’t do it for you, consider the upbeat guitar noodles worn over the pianos and traditional flutes. The music is intriguing, is it not? You can find Tsubomi on Types A and B of “Yokai Disco”, the 2nd single from Wyenra, in stores on April 24, 2019.

WYENRA (ゑんら, えんら, enra) is a self-produced idol unit formed on January 14, 2018 featuring Miira Misata and Takiguchi Hikari, both formerly of the idol group drop, as well as Hikari’s sister Kirara. Wyenra made its live debut on February 10, 2018. Although all members belong to Platinum Production from July 15, 2018, they have a contract that does not involve in any activities, and they are working as free self-producing units. Wyenra’s current lineup includes members Miira Misato (木乃伊 みさと), Takiguchi Hikari (滝口 ひかり), and Takiguchi Kirara (滝口 きらら).

A summer themed promotional video from CY8ER, those ethereal idols? Well, the girls get on a boat on Tokyo Bay, crack open a bottle of the bubbly, and party it up. With big glasses, sun dresses, and a few bare shoulders, CY8ER definitely gets in to the spirit of the season. Aside from all the partying on the top deck, “Summer” gives us a great listen to all the girls’ voices for some individuality. Although “Summer” shares much with the Yunomi productions of past, I sense a real evolution here with the production of this third and final monthly single from CY8ER. A wider variety of sounds get utilized, and the bouncy rhythms get some extra loft from the emphasis on melody and some creative samples. Maybe CY8ER are really the party time girls that we see in “Summer”; it’s just great to get this look captured on film for those of us across the sea. “Summer”, the sixth single from CY8ER, goes on sale April 24, 2019.

CY8ER (formerly known as BPM15Q) is a “new age vocal & DJ unit.” The name BPM15Q referred to both of the original members, with 15 referencing Ichigo Rinahamu (1 = ichi, 5 = go), and Q referencing Nicamoq. Rinahamu serves as the producer. Nicamoq left in late 2016, and 2 members joined in 2017, 3 members later joined in April 2017. At the same time, the group changed their name to CY8ER. CY8ER’s musical genre is commonly described as a mix of Future Bass and Drum & Bass, both subgenres of EDM. CY8ER’s current lineup includes members Ichigo Rinahamu (苺りなはむ), Koinumaru Pochi (小犬丸ぽち), Suzukawa Mashiro (or just Mashiro) (涼川ましろ), Yamiyume Yammy (病夢やみい), and Fujishiro Anna (藤城アンナ).
