New music from Dempagumi.inc features the girls in their new six-girl configuration after the departure of Yumemi Nemu. First off, “Inochi no Yorokobi (いのちのよろこび)” is the latest physical sincle by Dempagumi.inc. Starting with bell tones, we quickly see the girls in a tribal rhythm and styled … well, they’re styled with an comic amount of bronzer and blonde wigs. It’s kind of like the gyaru style taken to ridiculous extremes. Dempagumi.inc is good at taking things to extremes.

Not to be outdone is the classic Dempagumi.inc sounds of “Ko♡Ushi♡Tora♡U♡Tatsu♡Mi♡ (子♡丑♡寅♡卯♡辰♡巳♡)”. The girls get hypnotized by a dicey television advert, and wake up in a wonderland surrounded by stuffed animals. There is a definite surreal quality to the promotional video as the girls work from one skit to another influenced by the CRT tubes flicking just in front of their faces.

Dempagumi.inc (でんぱ組.inc) is a Japanese female idol group from Akihabara, Tokyo. Their music generally follows the style of denpa song. All members are said to be former otaku. Dempagumi.inc formed in 2008 performing daily on Akihabara’s DearStage live bar. In December that same year they released their debut single, “Mirror Magic?”, under the indies label DearStage Records as Dempagumi (でんぱ組). Then in 2010 they released their major debut, the joint single “Kiss+kiss de Owaranai / Star☆tin'”, under the label Lantis. In 2011, they changed labels once again to MEME TOKYO before releasing the single “Future Diver”. Treating us to an extra helping of luxurious pop, today we have Kaede from Negicco and closing track from her upcoming solo mini album “Shinya. Anata wa Kyo wo Furikaeri, Mata Atarashii Asa dane.” The pop of Kaede works just like magical images of coffee brewing in a siphon coffee maker in the first scene of the PV. The music takes a discerning palate and bit of time to bring itself to taste. This isn’t fast food. Like everything we’ve heard from Kaede, “Hikarakuyou” is worth taking its time for its gentle melodies and layered instrumental approach. “Hikarakuyou” sounds like the closing track of an album with an extended instrumental outro that allows the guitars to come to a little bit of the same frenzy as water in a rolling boil. “Shinya. Negicco (ねぎっこ, the name is officially written in Latin script) is a female idol music group created in July 2003. It is composed today of three members: Nao (なお), Megu (めぐ), and Kaede (かえで). The group is from Niigata, Japan, and was created for the promotion of the local green onion (Allium fistulosum): the word negi (ねぎ) means “green onion” in Japanese. “Negicco” thus means “The green onion girls”. The group is produced by Negi-pro Agency, and is signed to the T-Palette Records label.

Morning Musume ’19 show us that they’re thinking about the working class with their newest promotional video “The Blues of Life (Jinsei Blues, 人生Blues)”. Everything starts off with Sato Masaki cleaning up a public bathroom (yes, you can insert your “The☆Peace!” joke here). Taking some very unglamorous jobs, the girls pair up to taste the indignities of us working stiffs. Cleaning toilets, delivering packages, and washing dishes (among others) comprises the majority of “Jinsei Blues”, and the girls definitely take their share of bumps from the menial jobs. In an ironic twist, Ikuta Erina and Kago Kaede work as production assistants to Morning Musume OG Iikubo Haruna’s diva persona. In the end, the girls get to celebrate dance together under some 360 camera work until they pile on top of each other like a toddlers collection of dolls. Or if you like, the girls exhausted from their long work day interlock limbs into the fabric of life they represent. Morning Musume (モーニング娘。; Morning Girls), currently known as Morning Musume ’19 (モーニング娘。’19, read as Morning Musume One-Nine), is the lead group of Hello! Project. The group was formed in 1997 on a talent show called ASAYAN ostensibly to find a female rock vocalist for the band SHARAM Q. I had a feeling we’d be seeing a more realized version of from Osaka☆Shunkashuto’s “NO-LIMIT” before long, and like clockwork we get this promotional video for this latest TV Anime OP. “NO-LIMIT”, at its heart, is a dance shot version. The six members wear their blood stained clothes in the white room you’re all accustomed to by now. The spotlights shoot frenetic beams throughout choreography heightening the disorientation brought by the strobes and quick cuts of the PV. “NO-LIMIT” comes off better for the short arrangement: the intensity of the song never flags, and MAINA’s voice gets a great showcase. But, seeing as we’ve already talked a bit about the song, I think I’m just going to link you to the upcoming release and send you on your way. Osaka☆Shunkashuto’s a new (as yet untitled) mini album comes out in July, and all bets say “NO-LIMIT” will be featured prominently on said release.

A group of 6 people living in Osaka, MAINA (マイナ), ANNA (アンナ), MANA (マナ), EON (エオン), YUNA (ユナ), and RUNA (ルナ) who are focusing on LIVE as a rock n girl dance and vocal unit. Since children, they went to Happy Time dance school based in Osaka, repeated strict practice, dreamed of making a major debut and applied for numerous auditions, but still failed to give up. The group first formed under the name Manyo Syaonyan (万葉シャオニャン) and were active from 2009 to 2012. In April 2012 Osaka☆Shunkashuto is formed from the thought that we want to convey the beauty of the flowers that bloom in the wonderful seasons and the four seasons with “Song” and “Dance”. In October 2015, the group signed with the Fujiyama Project Japan label. Around the same time, the girls started hosting the new variety show Katayaburi on Kawaiian TV. On October 2, 2017, the group signed with binyl records, a sub-label of avex. They released their first major single “Travelin’ Travelin'” the following day.

“The Curtain Rises” on the latest promotional video from tipToe. The girls don their attractive seifuku for this dance shot with the stage smoke and lights adding ambience to the production. The upbeat rock tempo of the track definitely should wake up a few ears, but the lyrics, at least through translation, of “The Curtain Rises” captures the wonderful effervescent nature of the group. With lyrics like “I don’t know where it began, but the story is coming to its end” and “We aren’t talented by any means, but we still are standing right here singing”, I can’t help but feel nostalgic for the moments watching the group grow to its eventual graduation. And, graduation should be coming soon by my count. TipToe are running toward it reaching out with an embrace. TIPTOE (ティップトウ, stylized tipToe.) is an idol group formed in December 2016. Promoting their first full length album, the department store girls of Qumali Depart get a a disco flavored tune in order with the release of “Udagawa Yokkyuu (ウダガワ・ヨッキュー)”. A top floor cafe and the streets of Shibuya play host to Qumali Depart as they dance their way through jumping bass lines of the song. Aside from their performance outfits, the girls get to try on some fashionable attire in their solo shots. Along with the fashion shots, the girls get some great solo shots singing into a vintage microphone on the overpasses high above traffic at night. The camera zooms and pans with its own energy, and this movement infuses “Udagawa Yokkyuu” with a sense of excitement missing from more bland PVs in the genre. “Udagawa Yokkyuu” is probably the best thing I’ve seen today and goes a long way to bolster my already high impression of Qumali Depart. Back with a new single, the girls from Chuning Candy get a more urban look to their PV with their latest jam “19 – nineteen-“. Down to five members, Chuning Candy meet the streets in stylish attire set to a modern sounding beat. Naturally, the girls look emotionally incomplete when they aren’t together, but after hours they meet up in the rehearsal studio for fulfilling practice with the girls. My head spins a fiction about how Chuning Candy took an absence after their previous single, and “19 -nineteen-” is actually a song about the group getting back together by the force of gravity. After all, it’s better together isn’t it? “19 -nineteen-” has a distinct Kpop flavor to it that I don’t particularly mind since I think it suits the group quite well. CHUNING CANDY (チューニングキャンディー) is a girls group formed with Cat’s Eye Talent School students of Okinawa in 2013. It’s a sad time around these parts as New School Kaidan favorites RHYMEBERRY disband as of the end of May. Perhaps “Thing for you” stands as the groups final testament, and is almost certainly the group’s final promotional video. Pasted together from live performance footage, we can all together relive the glory days of the rap idol group in their final configuration with MC MIRI, DJ OMOCHI, and MC YUIKA. There’s a definite bittersweet sadness that weaves its way through the song with the sing-song counterpoints to MIRI distinctive rap. Well, here it is; and here it will remain. Teaming up with Mineta Kazunobu from GING NANG BOYZ, Oomori Seiko drops unto us a ten minute promotional video for her latest single “Re: Re: Love” Working with a classic arrangement that complements Seiko’s acoustic guitar with some silky guitar leads, “Re: Re: Love” maintains the sensibilities of much of the artist’s work. There is a patented Seiko freak-out with glorious guitar noise and her caterwaul, and Mineta gets in on the noisy action as well. Drone footage makes up most of the “Re: Re: Love” promotional video with the video zooming in and out through the window and out the door of Seiko’s flat with Mineta. In fact, the way the camera moves out one window and into the other might be the trademark imagery from the PV. So how is this ten minutes long? Well, there’s an interlude during the noisy bridge and a lengthy coda at the end of the PV that should explain the length. Don’t be put off by the ten minutes: it’s not like a ten minute drama PV. Oomori Seiko’s 9th single “Re: Re: Love” goes on sale June 12, 2019.

ABOUT OOMORI SEIKO

Oomori Seiko (大森靖子) is a Japanese singer-songwriter who began her career in 2008. She is also the former lead singer, guitarist, and keyboardist for the band Omori Seiko & THE Pink Tokarev. Omori Seiko was born on September 18, 1987 in Matsuyama, Ehime, Japan. Omori graduated from high school in 2006 and decided to enter Musashino Art University in Tokyo. When she was 19, Omori came across the live house Muryoku Muzenji, which showed her the way of music and allowed her to express her interests without judgement. She eventually quit university in 2007 to instead pursue a music career. She is a fan of Hello! Project and Michishige Sayumi in particular, and she has written songs for various UP-FRONT GROUP artists since 2014. Aside from her work Hello! Project, Oomori Seiko has also composed and written songs for idol groups LADYBABY, Terashima Yufu, Shiina Hikari, and Ueda Tatsuya, and others.

Uchida Shuri – Rhythm ni awa sete odoru

A couple of promotional videos broke for Uchida Shuri recently, both with the sense of mystery that wowed me the first time I heard her. “Rhythm ni awa sete oduru (リズムに合わせて踊る)” starts with the singer visiting abandoned places in black and white. The simple dress that Shuri wears looks perfect in the monochromatic screen; she looks like spirit floating to the rhythm. A few colorful pops of Shuri enshrouded in smoke complement the slow groove of “Rhythm ni awa sete odoru” as the song picks up momentum and lets some noisy ghosts loose.

On the second track “Itsumo no asa (いつもの朝)”, Shuri keeps things simple (?) with a self-shot promotional video of those morning hours around Tokyo. Most images are drained of color to keep with the ethereal nature of the singer’s most recent output. As Shuri trains the camera on herself, we get a good look at the model-cum-singer. I know the pacing and mood of Uchida Shuri doesn’t work for many of you out there, but I’m seriously entranced. You can find both of these tracks on Uchida Shuri’s recent 1st EP release “Hikari no naka wo oyogu (光の中を泳ぐ)”, on sale now.

UCHIDA SHURI (内田珠鈴) is a female singer and model born on April 26, 2001 in Fukuoka. As an elementary student, Shuri won Grand Prix at an elementary school student audition for the fashion magazine JS Girl. In April 2017, she graduated from an exclusive modeling contract with JS Girl and moved from Fukuoka to Tokyo begin activities as an artist. By December of that same year, Uchida Shuri held her first one-man live: a sold-out performance at Shibuya gee-ge.

Stardust Planet’s next gen group CROWN POP has a slice of summer prepared for you with their latest promotional video “Summer time rule (サマータイムルール). The girls get away to Okinawa for a vacation that beach-goer would be proud of. The girls undertake missions to maximize their fun. Water skiing, kayaking, and parasailing take their place next to yukatas and fireworks in the seaside paradise, and the girls wear themselves out to the point of exhaustion. “Summer time rule” is a good look at a Stardust Group that many of us may yet be familiar. I definitely felt closer to the group after this fun PV! “Summer time rule”, the second single from CROWN POP, goes on sale July 9, 2019.

New tunes from DESURABBITS emerged … honestly a couple of weeks ago. But, that’s not going to stop me from writing about it! Especially when DESURABBITS never sounded more accessible than they do with “Demo, nigen na (でも、逃げんな)”. The guitars and heavy bass sounds serve the melodic output of Yuzu, Emi, and Karin in this go around. The promotional video is a live shot product for most of its run, and the group with their rabbit ear headdresses come out pretty good for it. I’m not sure that I’ve enjoyed a DESURABBITS song as much as I enjoyed “Demo, nigen na”. You can find “Demo, nigen na” on DESURABBITS’s latest release “Sotsugyou shoujo ‐ mirai e ‐ / Demo, nigen na” released on March 20, 2019.

Desu. Rabbits is a Japanese Death Pop group. The producer of the group, Bucho is also a member of the group and provides the ‘metal’ that the group is lacking. DESURABBITS was formed in October 2013 as a subgroup of usa☆usa club. At the time of formation, the group name was DEATHRABBITS, which changed to DESU.RABBITS in November 2016, and was finally changed to the current DESURABBITS in February 2019. The group aims to combine digital hardcore with catchy idol songs in a genre the group calls “Japanese Death Pop”. DESURABBITS’ current lineup includes members Yasui Karin (安井夏鈴), Okawa Yuzu (大川柚), Mochizuki Emi (望月愛実), and Bucho (部長 producer/member).

After a year out of the scene, Fairies returns with a new single and a new promotional video. “Metropolis (Metropolis～メトロポリス～)” keeps the Eurobeat alive, Fairies dance the beat with their customary synchronization (always on point). The girls also get some fancy footwork to go along with their distinctive arm choreography in the “Metropolis” choruses. The striking black and white sets for the dance shots get echoed in the group’s outfits both black with gold accents and white. Meanwhile the beat never stops as guitar leads rip their way through the instrumental’s big percussion. It’s great to see Fairies back in the fold, we’ve been missing them for a while now. You can find “Metropolis” on Fairies’s 17th single of the same name set for release on July 17, 2019.

Fairies (フェアリーズ) is a Japanese pop idol group on the agency Vision Factory (now Rising Production) and on the label SONIC GROOVE under avex. Members were chosen from 100 candidates who were attending dance schools affiliated with Vision Factory, coming from 13 regions of Japan.They formed in 2011 with hopes of becoming big like Amuro Namie and SPEED who share the same agency as the group. @JAM is just around the corner, and here to herald its arrival is the navigator unit R2K. The group features Kurusu Rin (26ji no Masquerade), Shiokawa Rise (Tenkou Shoujo*), and Shiraoka Kyoka (Tash Have Fun) singing the characteristic upbeat theme to the event. “Koisuru Skirt (恋するスカート)” features the trio in a live performance as well as off shot camera from recording and photographic sessions. R2K follows in the tradition of last year’s MEY, 2017’s Sakura no Yume, and 2016’s NAH. Task have Fun is an idol trio. They were formed in February 2016 and performed under the name TASK part ONE until changing their name in April of the same year. All the members were in Junior High School when Task have Fun were created from members of Velvet Management Agency. The unit name “Task have Fun” can be interpreted into “If you have a task, a job, the task = have fun or have fun”, etc. The main music production for Task have Fun is done by GUCCHO (Yamaguchi Toshiya). Coming to us with a live track from their December 2018 release “THE WORLD IS MINE”, today we get a promotional video from SPARK SPEAKER (well, two weeks ago in reality). The four girls of SPARK SPEAKER perform without a net giving us the live vocals from their live band performance. I gotta say, they sound pretty good! There’s even some harmonized vocals during the chorus, and you know how much I love harmonized vocals! Even with the capable live band backing SPARK SPEAKER, they make an attempt at choreography albeit mostly behind whoever is taking lead vocals. “SUNRISE” is a great looking, great sounding live performance that (I hope) attracts eyes to the group. “THE WORLD IS MINE”, from which this track was taken, is available at the digital retailers listed below now. EMPiRE bring their new formation to rock the palace for their second single “SUCCESS STORY”. To recap, YUKA EMPiRE is out and NOW EMPiRE is in. Enrobed in stark red and black, the avex/WACK co-venture stage their dance shot in the sanded driveway where one can easily imagine a horse-drawn carriage pulling into the grand entrance. EMPiRE take advantage of their set shooting in the elegantly gilded drawing rooms and perched on the balconies of the stately address. “SUCCESS STORY” relies heavily on a guitar motif that gets an echo in the verses’s bubbling keyboard. For all that, the song is every bit as danceable as the latest disco when it hits its chorus. Hell, the girls of EMPiRE even manage to wave their arms and shake it properly in their choreography. EMPiRE is a group formed on August 23, 2017. The group was formed as a collaboration by WACK and avex known formerly as Project aW. Project aW was formed around YU-Ki and YUKA who had participated in the WACK auditions earlier in the year. Girls who had failed the previous WACK audition were especially encouraged to audition for this upcoming project. The completed Project aW, known officially as “EMPiRE”, was revealed on August 23rd. EMPiRE released their first single “PiERCE” on February 27, 2019 and charted at number 5 on Oricon’s Weekly Singles Chart. EMPiRE’s current lineup includes YU-Ki, MiDORiKO, MAYU, MAHO, MiKiNA, and NOW.

Celebrating their 5th anniversary as a group, Kamiyado brings us a choreography video for their song “Harukaze Ambitious (春風Ambitious)”. Normally I wouldn’t link a choreography video here on the New PV Alerts (let’s face it, this isn’t really a PV). But given that the group won my favor with a pair of great singles in the last year I thought we’d have a little Kamiyado party here. Besides, we get to see the choreography done perhaps better than it would be under the pressures of a live performance. We also get to see a little bit of the stuff that goes into stew: the numbered markers on the floor, the mirrored surfaces, and the modest size of the studio. Kamiyado (神宿) is a Harajuku based Japanese idol group formed in September 2014. They are also known as KMYD. The origin of their name is a combination of the kanjis 神 (“kami”) from Meiji Shrine (明治神宮) and 宿 (“yado”) from Harajuku (原宿). The acronym for KMYD is Kawaii (可愛い！) Max (全力！) Yell (応援！) Dream (夢！). The party rock of Chu-Z gets a new release with the quickly paced beats of “Baribarinrin (ばりばりんりん)”. The girls get a transformation from their alter egos to long coat wearing Chu-Z wota crazies via a transmission from a bow-tie wearing mister. From here the girls keep enlisting folks to their cause (and their two-handed dance). “Baribarinrin” just goes to show that even though you might resist, the wota lifestyle will infect you regardless of your walk of life. By the end of the PV, the girls enliven and bring a boxer from the brink of defeat to a knock-out victory. This is perhaps the goofiest thing I’ve seen today, but I mean that in a good way. Not to be ignored, “Baribarinrin” is brought to you in 1080p 60fps, and it looks gorgeous. “Baribarinrin”, the new single from Chu-Z, goes on sale July 9, 2019.

Chu-Z (チューズ) is a Japanese idol group formed in July 2012 to include former Idoling!! member Kobayashi Maia (麻衣愛). The name Chu-Z is a wordplay with the English word “choose”. The meaning is that the members have multiple talents like dancing, singing, talking… that can be selected. The idol unit is produced by Sasaki Yohey from Panicrew. According to the legend, only 2 people bought some goods after their debut performance at Yokohama Blitz.
